Budgeting for human rights requires a deeper understanding about different budget lines and requirements, including the building up of reserve funds to allow human rights defenders to operate throughout temporary financial instability. While we are busy creating resources that are fully adapted to the needs and challenges of the human rights movement, we share existing resources, albeit from other sectors, for your inspiration.
Philanthropy University has developed an online class to introduce the fundamental skills that you will need to prepare an operating budget for a nonprofit organization or social enterprise. You will learn about the different types of budgets, explore operational budget components, compare different processes for generating financial estimates, and design inclusive processes to develop an operational budget with your team.

At Phoenix Initiative, we cannot guarantee the quality of all the resources we share. What is important for us is that you are aware of what exists, and where you can find the knowledge you might need. If you think something is not helpful, please let us know.
